Ruta graveolens, commonly known as rue, common rue or herb-of-grace, is a species of the genus Ruta grown as an ornamental plant and herb. Externally, rue is applied as a skin antiseptic and insect repellant, as well as a poultice against rheumatic pain.The parts that grow above the ground and the oil are used as medicine. Rue contains chemicals that might have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. People use rue for cancer, indigestion, insect repellent, birth control, and many other purposes, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
